How You Can Rejuvenate Your Garden for Summer

0

The days are getting lighter and warmer as we leave winter behind. Spring is well and truly on the way. Maybe you’ve already dared being out in your garden. Have you noticed it’s looking a bit worse for wear? By following some simple steps, you can rejuvenate your garden just in time for summer.

Fix Your Lawn

The lawn can make or break your garden. If yours is looking worn out, the first thing you need to identify the problem then you can go about rejuvenating it. Each lawn will need its own fixes but some general green rules of thumb to follow are feeding your lawn, regular mowing, and de-weeding. You’ll need to carefully trim your lawn using garden strimmers to keep it looking presentable. Remember, a healthy lawn needs looking after all year. Put the work in now and reap the rewards later.

Planting Plan

During these spring months, you can take action to ensure your garden is looking all year round, especially in the summer when you’ll be using it the most. Take this time to prune away plants that are no longer flowering. Mulch your flower beds for your summer bulbs. Leaf mould and wood chippings are good for this. The mould helps nourish and the chippings keep weeds away. Be sure you’ve planned your flower beds so each plant has enough room to blossom. Are you not too sure what to plant during the spring? Good bulbs to plant now that will bloom for summer are alliums, agapanthus and cannas.

Clear Boundaries

It’s not just your flower beds that require planning, but the entire shape of your garden. Whether your garden is currently overgrown, or you just want to neaten things up, clear boundaries can make a huge difference. How you go about creating your boundaries will depend on the size of your garden. You could create them by fencing, bushes, or even just creating a clear border between your lawn and flower beds. If you currently have fencing, make sure to get rid of any rot and renew it with a fresh coat of paint.

Refresh Furniture

Something that can make a garden look tired is the outdoor furniture. Even though it’s designed to withstand the elements, it can end up looking worn-out. Thankfully, it’s very simple to restore your garden furniture no matter what material it’s made from. Don’t forget to wash the cushions or table cloths, too. Make sure you do the cleaning now, so when summer comes you can simply sit back and relax.

Your garden should be a place that brings you joy. Sprucing it up may take some work and patience, but the end result will definitely be worth it. Do you have any tips for rejuvenating a garden?
