Installing a Bidet in Your Bathroom

Plumbing work can be intimidating, so we recommend hiring a professional for bidet installation or repair. However, if you have decided to DIY, here is what you need to do when installing different bidets.

  • Bidet Toilet Seat

If you decide to install a bidet toilet seat, you will need to replace the existing seat. The plumbing work is simple, but we insist on reading the manual first before you start installing. There are two types of bidet toilet seats- electric and non-electric.

Electric bidets offer features like heated seats, lighting, warm water, and remote control. That means if you go for an electric bidet toilet seat, you will need an electrical outlet nearby.

However, the installation process of both non-electric and electric bidet toilet seats is the same. Turn the water supply off and remove the old toilet seat. Attach the new seat and put the screws in place. Additionally, ensure you unscrew the hose from the tank and attach it to the T-valve with the bidet hose. Plug in the electric cord and turn on the water supply to fix leaks and ensure the seat operates well.

  • Free Standing Bidets

Free-standing bidets are wall-mounted bidets and floor-mounted bidets that you install on the wall or tile. When installing a wall-mounted bidet, all the plumbing work is in the wall, and a drain is used to drain water from the bidet. Check the space available to know if a free-standing bidet is the best choice. A free-standing bidet may require the same room as the toilet. So, you will need the bidet, bidet faucet, bidet mounting kit, pencil or marker, level, silicon sealant, drill, and wrench.

The water supply line may come from the floor or the wall for a floor-mounted bidet. So, configure your plumbing before installing the bidet. Ensure you also read the manufacturer’s manual before you start to avoid emergency plumbing repairs.

  • Bidet Attachment

A bidet attachment is stored under the toilet seat. Every part will be added to the kit, and you only need a flat-head screwdriver and a wrench.

Turn off the water supply and remove the toilet seat. Put the attachment on the toilet seat with holes lining up and place the toilet seat back over the bidet and screw them together with the toilet seat bolts.

You will then need to remove the hose on the underside of the tank and attach it to the T-valve together with the water supply hose. Most importantly, confirm that the washer hose is attached to the front part of the T-valve.

  • Handheld Bidet Sprayer

A handheld bidet sprayer is easy to install since it does not require much work. However, it is crucial to read the manual before starting. Start by turning off the water supply and emptying the toilet tank.

Check the location of the sprayer and the length of the hose. Remember, you will need to unscrew the hose on the tank so you can attach the sprayer. You will then need the T-valve in the kit to connect the two hoses and ensure the sprayer is on the side of the tank.

You can turn on the water supply to check the connection and fix the leaks.

Conclusion

Installing a bidet in the bathroom is not difficult as long as you know what to do. It is crucial to choose the right type of bidet suitable for your bathroom and ensure you have enough space. If you don’t know how to go about it, it is best to call a professional plumber to help you with the installation.
