Have you ever driven past a particularly spectacular house that’s taken your breath away? Homes with particularly high kerb appeal often have that effect on people. Kerb appeal is the way that your house looks from the street. It’s the first thing people see when they approach your house and sadly, it’s often overlooked.
Improving your home’s kerb appeal is especially important if you’re thinking about selling your house, after all, first impressions are everything! In this blog I’m going to walk you through some of the simple ways you can improve your home’s kerb appeal to achieve the ‘wow-factor’.
Make everything clean and bright
One of the quickest and easiest ways to improve your home’s kerb appeal is to make everything look clean and bright. Make sure that your fences, gates, front door, and windows are all in tip top condition. This might mean, applying a fresh coat of paint, getting the window cleaners in, and generally tidying up the front garden.
Dead leaves, muddy footprints and a wild unkept front garden can really put people off when they see your house for the first time. If you’re putting your house on the market, it’s really important that you address these issues and make your home look as pristine as possible. You want people to see that your house has been looked after!
Refresh your driveway/garden path
Over time, driveways and paths can start to look worn. Weeds and moss appear in between the tiles and the whole space starts to look lack lustre. One way to combat this is to give everything a good clean and weed, & check some wood fence gate designs but from experience, that can take a lot of hard work and have underwhelming results.
If you want to really give the front of your home a facelift, I’d recommend installing a new driveway or garden path & choosing a material that won’t wear, stain or scuff so easily. Outdoor porcelain tiles are a great option for this because they’re vitrified at a high temperature. This means they’re incredibly hard wearing and can be walked and driven on to your heart’s content.
Better yet, porcelain paving comes in a huge variety of styles and designs so whether you want a driveway that’s white and minimal or dark and sultry, you’ll have plenty of options to choose from.
Add eye-catching features
It’s not uncommon for people to focus most of their energy on the design of their back garden, after all, that’s where they’ll spend the most time. Because of this, there’s often a lot of space at the front and sides of the house that’s being under-utilised. Spending the time to think about some eye-catching features for these areas can dramatically improve your home’s kerb appeal.
Why not replace the lawn or gravel at the front of the house with a chic, low-maintenance composite deck? You could use any leftover decking to create a lovely garden planter and fill it with seasonal herbs and flowers. Something like this will turn a demanding garden feature like a lawn into bold and eye-catching space that complements the rest of the home.
Other features you could add include, potted plants, a brightly coloured retractable awning, a bold new front door or even a water feature. All of these things are sure to catch the attention of passers by and will give your home improved kerb appeal.
